Mission group sees growth in Nicaragua
Nicaragua Report to the congregation: Sunday evening, July 6, 2008.
Sixteen church
members traveled to Central America during
the first week of June for the third annual Edmond mission
trip to Nicaragua. During the week-long trip, the group noticed
significant growth in the Nicaraguan church.
Attendance records
were set for the Vacation Bible School
and Sunday worship service, according to Kyle Mauck. VBS had 212 in
attendance while the worship assembly, which averaged about 135 in
attendance before the mission trip, had a staggering 273 worshippers
present.
“God truly has
blessed the work in Nicaragua!” said Mauck. “In just three years since
Edmond has been sending groups to Nicaragua, the church has grown
significantly each year in numbers, but more importantly, in the
spiritual maturity of its members.”
Three years ago,
church members really didn’t know what a VBS was, and now some of the
ladies in the congregation learned the curriculum from our ladies and
actually led some of the classes and centers at this year’s VBS.
Besides conducting
a training clinic for teachers, the mission team also poured six
concrete floors in members’ homes, conducted a three-night VBS,
distributed school supplies, distributed 80 care packages to families
(with rice, beans, medicine, toothbrushes, etc.), handed out 400 lbs. of
Spanish Bible/Evangelism tracts, purchased 50 hardback Spanish Bibles
for new converts and spent time encouraging our missionaries David and
Kim Romero.
“David and Kim are
doing very well,” said Mauck. “The church there really respects them and
looks up to them for leadership and support.”
The trip was only
a week, but the group provided tremendous support and blessings to the
Christians in Nicaragua. In return, they felt blessed to have the
opportunity to spend time with brothers and sisters in Nicaragua.
